About this place
Choose a wine as you nibble through a few appetisers, then add a hot dish if something catches your eye. At Bistro N, part of the pleasure is setting your own pace. One diner reported that the assorted appetisers included small portions of 7 different dishes, followed by oyster and spinach gratin. The gratin contained 4–5 oysters, they said, with black pepper on top adding a little bite.
For a wider spread of starters, options include caramelised onion tart, sardines marinated in sherry and fig and mascarpone canapés. On another visit, diners enjoyed an assortment of tapas, ordered more appetisers and went on to try pasta and meat dishes. There are several wines by the glass; one diner chose Muscadet on the owner’s recommendation. The menu also describes a white wine with citrus notes and a gently bitter finish, as well as sparkling wine with a fresh aroma and dry palate. If you begin with appetisers, it could be enjoyable to choose a glass to match each dish.
With tapas, pasta and meat dishes to choose from, the menu suits both a solo meal of wine and appetisers and an evening sharing dishes with a few others. One diner reported that the owner was running the restaurant almost alone, so booking for dinner and allowing plenty of time may be wise.
